Optometric Vision Therapy is a treatment regimen to correct or improve specific dysfunctions of the vision system identified by standardized diagnostic criteria. Vision Therapy includes, but is not limited to, the treatment of strabismus and other binocular vision or convergence dysfunctions, amblyopia, accommodation, ocular motor function and visual-perceptual-motor abilities.
Vision Therapy may also be referred to as visual training, vision training or orthoptics. Vision therapy is very useful for those who have a problem with the vision system (apart from myopia, astigmatism, etc.) that cannot be commonly treated by compensatory lenses.
Vision Therapy provides medically necessary treatment for diagnosed visual dysfunctions. Apart from preventing the development of visual problems, Vision Therapy also enhances visual performance to meet defined needs of the patients.
Optometric Vision Therapy makes systematic use of lenses, prisms, filters, occlusion and other appropriate materials, modalities, equipment, and procedures.
Vision Therapy is effective for the treatment of many developmental or acquired and some congenital vision dysfunctions.
In the U.S., vision disorders affect almost one child in four. Vision Therapy assists these children in improving the quality of their life by eliminating their vision problems.
